T. S. Eliot

THE LAUREATE: Nobel biography and Wikipedia page

MY EXPERIENCE WITH HIM: I read a bit of Eliot in high school and again in college for fun.

WHAT I’M READING: What he specifically won for, the Four QuartetsREVIEW: Four Quartets, like all of Eliot’s work, is very bleak. It consists of four extended poems split into five sections. The last owner of my copy helpfully scribbled all over it, so I had no choice but to view each one linked to one of Aristotle’s four elements. Eliot’s work here is essentially concerned with man’s relation to time and the universe. I liked it, even if it was brief and much more overtly religious than Eliot’s previous work.

WHO’S NEXT: Carl Spitteler
