Nelly Sachs

Nelly Sachs

THE LAUREATE: Nobel biography and Wikipedia page

WHAT I’M READING: Apparently her first collection in English, O The Chimneys

REVIEW: If the Holocaust was a weight on Czeslaw Milosz’ neck that he dragged through the rest of his life, it was an ugly, bleeding wound for Nelly Sachs. Her earliest work throbs with anger and grief and despair.

RECOMMENDED: Yes. Absolutely.

WHAT’S NEXT: Wyslawa Szymborska
